NEC Sunday Worship – 4 PM on 2020-05-17

Perhaps just a moment of organ music as we begin? ORGAN

In today’s worship we have leadership from Bill, Merle, Sheri, Steve and all those worshiping, including: Garnet, Lisa, Bev?, Bob, Betty, Janet, Marilyn, …

Who have I not included in that list of people who is also attending?

SHERI – reads Psalm 150

Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.

Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.

Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.

Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.

Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.

Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.

SHERI – leads us in a Prayer of Adoration

All Things Bright and Beautiful – Page 24

SONG – ALL THINGS BRIGHT AND BEAUTIFUL

REFRAIN

All things bright and beautiful,    all creatures great and small,

all things wise and wonderful,     the Lord God made them all.

Each little flow’r that opens,     each little bird that sings,

he made their glowing colors,     he made their tiny wings.

All things bright and beautiful,    all creatures great and small,

all things wise and wonderful,     the Lord God made them all.

The purple-headed mountains,     The river running by,

The sunset and the morning          That brightens up the sky.

All things bright and beautiful,    all creatures great and small,

all things wise and wonderful,     the Lord God made them all.

The cold wind in the winter,     The pleasant summer sun,

The ripe fruits in the garden,     He made them every one.

All things bright and beautiful,    all creatures great and small,

all things wise and wonderful,     the Lord God made them all.

He gave us eyes to see them,     And lips that we might tell

How great is God Almighty,      Who has made all things well.

All things bright and beautiful,    all creatures great and small,

all things wise and wonderful,     the Lord God made them all.

Merle reads

Psalm 66:8-20

66:8 Bless our God, O peoples, let the sound of his praise be heard,

66:9 who has kept us among the living, and has not let our feet slip.

66:10 For you, O God, have tested us; you have tried us as silver is tried.

66:11 You brought us into the net; you laid burdens on our backs;

66:12 you let people ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water; yet you have brought us out to a spacious place.

66:13 I will come into your house with burnt offerings; I will pay you my vows,

66:14 those that my lips uttered and my mouth promised when I was in trouble.

66:15 I will offer to you burnt offerings of fatlings, with the smoke of the sacrifice of rams; I will make an offering of bulls and goats. Selah

66:16 Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what he has done for me.

66:17 I cried aloud to him, and he was extolled with my tongue.

66:18 If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.

66:19 But truly God has listened; he has given heed to the words of my prayer.

66:20 Blessed be God, because he has not rejected my prayer or removed his steadfast love from me.

BILL – shares a Prayer of Confession

Here I Am Lord – Page 3

Here I am Lord  —  Dan Schutte, S. J.

I, the Lord of sea and sky,  I have heard my people cry

All who dwell in deepest sin,   my hand will save

I who made the stars of night,   I will make their darkness bright

Who will bear my light to them,   Whom shall I send

Here I am Lord,  Is it I Lord,  I have heard you calling in the night

I will go Lord, If you lead me,  I will hold your people in my heart

I, the Lord of snow and rain,   I have borne my people’s pain

I have wept for love of them,  they turn away

I will break their hearts of stone,   give them hearts for love alone

I will speak my word to them,  whom shall I send

Here I am Lord,  Is it I Lord,  I have heard you calling in the night

I will go Lord, If you lead me,  I will hold your people in my heart

I, the Lord of wind and flame,   I will tend the poor and lame

I will set a feast for them,    my hand will save

Finest bread I will provide,    till their hearts be satisfied

I will give my life to them,   whom shall I send

Here I am Lord,  Is it I Lord,  I have heard you calling in the night

I will go Lord, If you lead me,  I will hold your people in my heart

BILL – reads John 14:15-21

14:15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

14:16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever.

14:17 This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you.

14:18 “I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you.

14:19 In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me; because I live, you also will live.

14:20 On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.

14:21 They who have my commandments and keep them are those who love me; and those who love me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them.”

One Day at a Time, Dear Jesus – Page 14

ONLY IF TIME ALLOWS

One Day at a Time, Dear Jesus

Marijohn Wilkin and Kris Kristofferson (verse 3 lyrics, Steve Long 9/09)

I’m only human,               I’m just a man,

Help me believe               in what I could be

and all that I am,

Show me the stairway     I have to climb,

Lord, for my sake,    teach me to take                 one day at a time.

One day at a time, dear Jesus,        That’s all I’m asking from You,

Just give me the strength to do ev’ry day

What I have to do;

Yesterday’s gone, dear Jesus,

And tomorrow may never be mine,

Lord, help me today,

Show me the way    one day at a time.

Do you remember            when you walked among men?

Well, Jesus, you know     if you’re looking below

that it’s worse now than then.

Pushing and shoving,      crowding my mind,

So, for my sake,       teach me to take                one day at a time.

One day at a time, dear Jesus,        That’s all I’m asking from You,

Just give me the strength to do ev’ry day

What I have to do;

Yesterday’s gone, dear Jesus,

And tomorrow may never be mine,

Lord, help me today,

Show me the way    one day at a time.

But it don’t hurt Lord,        if we think past today

Help us to think,               that we’re not on the brink,

showin’ kindness each day,

And if we do Lord,            Pass along your good grace

Maybe we make,     the actions folk take         better day after day

One day at a time, dear Jesus,        That’s all I’m asking from You,

Just give me the strength to do ev’ry day

What I have to do;

Yesterday’s gone, dear Jesus,

And tomorrow may never be mine,

Lord, help me today,

Show me the way    one day at a time.

Prayer – concluding with The Lord’s Prayer

Blest Be the Tie That Binds – Page 7

Blest be the tie that binds

Our hearts in Christian love;

The fellowship of kindred minds

Is like to that above.

Before our Father’s throne

We pour our ardent prayers;

Our fears, our hopes, our aims, are one,

Our comforts and our cares.

We share our mutual woes,

Our mutual burdens bear,

And often for each other flows

The sympathizing tear

Blest be the tie that binds

Our hearts in Christian love;

The fellowship of kindred minds

Is like to that above.

STEVE – AS WE CLOSE… (in unison:)

Friends, life is short and there is precious little time to gladden the hearts of those who travel with us…So let’s make haste to be kind, and be quick to love, for within every act of love and kindness, the God who first formed us, reforms us and transforms us again and again, now and forever! And certainly for all of these blessings, we – the people of God – say… AMEN!
